Objective

As a result of this study abroad course, students will:

  • Compare and contrast food and beverage and lodging operations with those in the US
  • Explain trends of tourism and their impact on the hospitality industry of Thailand
  • Describe the impact of culture and diversity as it relates to Thai tourism
  • Develop an awareness of the culture and ethnicity of Thai customs and food and beverage
  • Differentiate the tourism industry in the US with that of Thailand
  • Experience hospitality education in a Thailand institution of higher learning
  • Students will visit 5-star hotel and foodservice operations that provide support to the Thailand tourism industry.
  • Students will learn about the country club segment and visit a top-notch resort in Cha Am.
  • Through educational experiences, students will better understand the impact of tourism on the economy of Thailand.

  • Educational experiences include:

      Participate in culinary experiences at Novotel Cooking Institution (2 days)
      Work in various capacities with managers and supervisors at the Novotel (1)
      Attend the Novotel School of Hospitality to learn the Siam Secrets of Service
      Observe the culture of Thailand while touring on the Rice Barge Cruise
      Experience the Venice of the East: Waterway transporting of merchandise
  • Attend lectures at various universities
  • Participate in conversations with managers of prominent hospitality operations
  • Visit local food stands, night markets, and a floating market
  • Visit Thai food industries and handicraft centers
  • Visit with a monk who will teach us how to do basic meditation
